Some Other Cat Tales

Editor's Note:  This is the story that best describes FFRC.  It takes a "village" to rescue cats.  From the volunteers at FFRC, to the Friends of FFRC on the webcam to the other cat's themselves, it is a whole community needed to save these wonderful cats.  The story of Asha is an example of so many coming together to save a cat.

Three people key in this story are no longer with us.  CGRcry was a webcam friend who heard of cat in need and reached out to Jacci and FFRC to ask them to save this cat.  Paul, from FFRC and his wife Tyna drove several hours to pick Asha up and bring her to FFRC where today, she is happy, thriving and living a wonderful life.

Sadly, Cgrcry, Paul and Tyna have all passed away.  On earth they were angels who saw cats in need and helped them.  We are forever grateful for knowing them and being witness to angels on earth.

Long Journey Home – As told by a cat

One day:

Oh, it hurts so bad.  Here comes that lady..she’s going to feed me.  I like that, I’m hungry..but I don’t think she likes me.  She presses on my leg and it hurts sooo much.  So I growl and she calls me mean.  She tells the others, be careful of that one..she’s feral.  Not sure what that means, but I don’t think I like it.

Next day:

Been here so long..in so much pain.  Don’t know what to do…I heard them talking about me.  They said they were going to bring me back to the woods tomorrow and let me go.  I don’t want to go back to the woods. It’s scary there.  I don’t think I have the strength to get through it.  I just don’t know what to do.

Next day:

I heard them talking about me again.  They said someone’s gonna come and get me today.  They said they don’t know why they want the feral one.  Oh, who’s that tall guy?  Wonder if he’s the one who’s gonna bring me to the woods?

“Hi there little kitty..my name is Paul”.  Hi Paul, I guess I’m Feral.

Oh, don’t like this crate.  Oh, it’s moving…Hi lady…”we’re going to take you to Jacci, don’t you worry.”

Ok, is Jacci in the woods?  Wow, this is a long trip.  I’m so sleepy..it hurts so much.  I like Paul and his friend…they keep telling me “it’ll be ok, sweet girl”.  Guess they don’t know my name is Feral.

Wow, that was a long trip.  “Sorry the car ride was so long.”  Oh, that’s ok Paul.  Where am I?

“Hi there sweet girl, I’m Jacci..let’s take a look at you.”  Hi Jacci.  Oh, that hurts.  “Sorry, wow that leg hurts doesn’t it.”  Yup, it really, really does.  “Don’t worry, we’ll make you feel better.”  OK..thanks.

Next day:

Oh, I’m so sleepy.  Still in pain, but it feels better.  Wow, my leg is gone.  Oh, oh.  “Hi sweet girl, we made you feel better.  Soon no more pain, ok..promise.  How about the name Asha…would you like that?”  OK, I like that better than Feral.  Thanks Jacci.  I do feel better, but very sleepy.  Is it ok if I sleep?  “Asha, you go to sleep now.  You’ll feel better, very soon.”  OK

Next day:

“Hi Asha, I’m Jodi.”  Hi Jodi..I feel better, but it still hurts a little.  Where am I?  “Don’t you worry Asha.  Everything will be ok.”  Ok…I’m gonna sleep some more.

Next day:

“Hi Asha, I’m Lisa”  Hi Lisa.  I’m feeling a little better, just really tired.  My bandages kinda itch.  Is that ok?  “Everything’s going to be alright.  You’re safe now.  Don’t you worry about a thing.”  OK, I won’t.

Next day:

“Hi Asha, I’m Judy.  How are you?”  Well, I’m a little better, but a little scared.  Do I have to go back to the woods today?  “don’t you worry Asha.  You’ll be alright.  You’re safe now.”  OK, thanks.  Oh, I like that.  Thanks for holding me.  Can you pet me some more?  “It’ll be alright Asha.  Don’t you worry.”  OK, I won’t.

Next day:

“Hi Asha, I’m Clemm.  What a sweet girl.  Come on..let’s sit for a while.”  Ok.  Oh, I like that.  Yes, please pet me some more.  Thank you.

Next day:

“Hi Asha, I’m Pat.  How are you doing little girl?”  OK, still a little sore.  But much better.  Oh, I like that..can you scratch me right under the chin?  Oh, yes, thank you.  “Such a sweet girl…don’t you worry.”  OK, I won’t.

Another day:

“Hi Asha, I’m Pam.  Feeling any better?”  Well, a little but should I be out of that cage?  Who are all these other cats?  Will they hurt me?  I’m scared.  “Don’t worry Asha…you’re safe here.  It’ll be alright.  Don’t you worry.”  OK, if you say so…I’ll try not to.

Another day:

“Hi”.  Hi, I’m Asha.   “I’m Zander”.  Oh, you’re missing a leg too.  Just like me.  “Yup..I got hit by a car.  How about you?”  Oh, if it’s ok, I’d rather not talk about it.  Too scary.  “That’s ok.  You don’t have to talk about it.  Can I lay here with you for a while?”  Um, ok…I guess so.

Next day:

“Hey, what are you doing?”  Oh, I’m Asha.  “I know.  I’m Emaline.  You’re in my bed.”  Oh, sorry.  Umm Jacci put me here.  Want me to go?  “No, that’s ok.  You can stay.”  What happened to your eye?  “Well, what happened to your leg?”  Oh, ok never mind.  “Move over…we can both sleep here.”

Next day:

“Hi Asha, I’m Martha.  Feeling better?”  Yes, thank you.  Oh..that’s nice.  I like to be petted.  Can you scratch my chin again?  “Asha…come sit with me.  I’m Dorothy…let’s talk.  Now you listen here, don’t be scared.  Don’t be sad.  You’re safe now.  No one’s going to hurt you.  Don’t you worry.”  OK..can I stay on your lap a little longer?

Next day:

“Ok, Asha, let’s get you moving some more.”  But Jacci, I don’t know about this.  Should I really be down on the floor?  OK, if you say so.  Oh, it’s not so bad moving.  Oh..I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to…I’m Asha…”I know who you are.  You’re in my way.”  Oh, sorry..I was just, um trying out my walking…you know I lost a leg?  “Suck it up kid…suck it up.”

“Hi Asha”  Hi Zander.  Zander, who was that?  “Oh, that was Putter…ignore him..his bark is way worse than his bite.”  OK…I’ll stay away from Putter.

Next day:

Again Jacci?  Really..do I have to do the floor again?  Can’t I just sleep?  “Come on Asha…you can do it.”  OK…oh, hi, I’m Asha.  “Hi.”  Oh, you’re missing a leg too….how come you scoot like that?  “My other leg doesn’t work either.  It’s easier to get around scooting.”  Oh, does it hurt.  “Nope…not at all.  I’m Bella..kinda the Queen around here.”  Oh, I think I met Queenie yesterday.  “She is not The Queen..Let’s get that straight.”  Oh, ok.  Oh, I gotta go walk over there, Jacci said I should.  “Ok, you do what Jacci says..and hey, don’t eat any of the baby food, ok..it’s all mine.”  OK..I’ll remember that.

Another day:

“Hi Asha.  I’m Kathy.  Do you want some baby food?”   Oh, well, yes, but ummm maybe not..I mean I don’t think I’m supposed to…will I get in trouble.  “Here you go sweetie..don’t you worry, everything will be ok.”  Oh, ok..don’t tell Bella ok?

Next day:

“Hi Asha, I’m Becky.  Let me give you a big hug.  Aww sweet little girl.”  Hi Becky.  I like that.  Can you hold me a little longer please?  Oh, yes, under the chin, please.

“Hi Asha.  I’m Dee, mind if I brush you?”  Ok, but will it hurt..oh, oh..that feels good.  Oh, can you do that some more?

Next day:

“Hi Asha.  Remember me?”  HI Paul.  Oh, you aren’t going to take me back to that place are you?  “You seem to be doing much better.  Good girl.”  Oh, thanks…bye Paul.  See you later.

“Hi Asha, I’m Connie.  Mind if I hold you for a little while?”  Oh, yes, please do…oh, under the chin, please.

Next day:

“Hi Asha.  I’m Gregg.”  Hi Gregg.    Oh, I like that.  Yes, more please.  Yup, the lower back.  Oh, don’t forget my chin.

Next day:

“Hi Asha.  Guess what?  You’ve been adopted!”  Really, but does that mean I have to go?  Oh, not to the woods, right.  Can’t I stay?  “And the best news.  The wonderful woman who adopted you is going to let you stay here forever?”  Really.  Like, forever?  “Her name is CG.  She’s the one who told us about you so we could go and get you.”  Really, where is she?  Do I know her?  “She watches you every day on the web.  She loves you very, very much.”  She does?  But she’s never met me?  Wow…that’s really nice.

Next day:

“Hi Asha.  Your mom sent you a collar!  Here, let me put this on.”  Oh, ok..ummm, it has a little bell, that’s annoying..I don’t like that…  “Let me take the bell off.”  Oh, much better..but do I really have to wear it?  Really?  I don’t like it.  I feel stupid…Can you take it off?

“Hi Asha..I’m Farrah.”  Hi Farrah, oh, you have a collar too?  “Yup”.  How come?  “well, when people come here, they know they can’t take me to their home.  I get to stay here, forever.”  Oh, so the collar means I really can stay here forever and ever?  “Yup.”

“Hi Asha.”  Hi Bella..oh, look you have a collar too!  “Yup.  This is my home forever”.

Oh, Jacci…I take it back..I love the collar.  You can put the bell on too, if you want…but don’t take the collar off, ok…I love my collar…yup, I really do.  Really, really…really I do!  I’m going to walk around and tell everyone I have a collar.  Oh, sorry.  Hi Putter..didn’t mean to bump you.  I just am so happy about the collar…I get to stay here forever!  Oh, sorry, you don’t have a collar.  Sorry, didn’t mean to rub it in.  “I don’t need a collar, they gave me a badge.  And a gun.  This is my home forever now too.”

Really?  Oh, where’s the gun?  “Never you mind.  Just know I have it.”  Oh, ok.  Well, gotta go find Zander and tell him the good news.  “Hey, Asha…good work, kid.  Welcome to Jacci’s.”  Thanks Putter.  I appreciate it.

Another day:

Hi, I’m Asha.  “Hi.  I don’t know my name.  They told me, but I can’t remember.”  Oh, that’s ok.  They’ll tell you again.  Why are you crying?  “I miss my mommy.  She went away and didn’t come back.  I miss her so much.  I’m so scared.”  Oh, it’s ok.  Don’t you worry.  I’ll stay with you a while.  Don’t cry.  It’ll be   alright.  Really, it will be.  “Ok, I won’t.”
